I developed Akheron Working Dogs in response to the noticeable gap in knowledge, experience and training specifically catered to working breeds in general dog training settings. These settings often set these dogs up for failure and misunderstand their needs and drives. I aim to provide an avenue for these dogs to appropriately express their natural instincts and to work with owners to improve the owner-dog bond. I also aim to assist working dog handlers in building their knowledge and skills and training their dogs to be their right hand dog for stock work jobs.
From my previous work roles and experiences, I have seen what can happen to dogs labelled as “out of control”, “aggressive”, “problematic” or other similar labels. I want to assist in preventing rehoming and rescue/pound relinquishments due to the lack of understanding of dog behaviour, especially working breed dogs, which can be improved with adequate outlets, behaviour modification and training. I also aim to help problem solve issues with working dogs when on the job or in the camp.
I own, train and work Kelpies and am incredibly passionate about the breed. I aim to develop a registered working Kelpie stud to produce dogs with an exceptional natural working ability, stable temperament and clear health results.
