HERDING

Herding training is available to herding breed (and apparent mixes) dogs of any age including puppies that have had at least two puppy vaccinations. My training approach is based on the necessary skills and obedience required for real world mustering dogs on farms/stations. I cater to any level of training and experience from complete beginners to experienced dogs. My livestock have been educated by my own working Kelpies to be suitable for training your pup or dog. My herding sessions will allow your dog to have an appropriate outlet for their natural instincts and provide mental and physical stimulation while under the guidance of an expert stock dog trainer. Herding is also a great way to build on your relationship with your dog and improve general behaviour and obedience.

What will be covered in herding sessions:

Basic herding skills and obedience (e.g. on balance work, stop, recall, casting etc.)
Advanced skills and obedience (e.g. forcing, off balance work, driving, penning, working the race etc.)
Basic livestock handling (sheep, goats and cattle available)
Instinct testing
Understanding your dog's drives and how to use them
My working Kelpies are always on hand ready to assist your dog to encourage and build on their herding instincts and skills

*Proof of dog vaccination required before commencing

* For health and safety, pups must have had two vaccinations and be at least 12 weeks old before attending

*Sessions may be cancelled at any time subject to trainer's discretion

BEGINNER SHEEP HERDING CLASS

Beginner Class gives you and your dog an introduction to sheep herding and tests your dog’s instinct on sheep. This class is suitable for dogs and handlers that have never worked on stock before. Suitable for dogs of any age including pups of any age that have had at least two vaccinations.

Suitable for handlers and dogs that have not worked stock before and/or have never trained with me
I cover basic herding skills and obedience (e.g. instinct testing, balancing)

NOVICE SHEEP HERDING CLASS

Novice Classes are regular group classes where you work your dog on sheep. Handler and dog can be at any level of training experience to attend this class; you and your dog learn together! The only prerequisite to attend this class is that handlers and dogs must have attended at least one beginner class or private session before attending these classes or have worked their dog at another facility. Suitable for dogs of any age including pups of any age that have had at least two vaccinations.

Easy-going and supportive classes to help you handle your dog on sheep
No experience needed to attend - I teach you how to work your dog through instruction and demos
These classes help you and your dog progress your training together
Suitable for fun, sport, trialing or work
These classes allow you to advance your handling skills and build on your dogs skills in the yards and paddock
These classes help to improve your bond with and control of your dog
I cover basic to more advanced stock dog skills and obedience (e.g. building on basic skills, forcing, off balance work, driving, penning, working the race, obstacles etc.)

2 hour session - $65 per spot (including GST)
One dog per spot or an additional $22 (including GST) if you bring a second dog which can be paid at the time of your class (please note that is only applies to dogs from the same household)

PRIVATE SESSIONS - SHEEP

Private sheep sessions are run at my property in Burpengary East, QLD. They run as on-going training sessions subject to trainer availability. Suitable for dogs of any age including pups that have had at least 2 puppy vaccinations.

Session details:

1 hour session - $100 (including GST)
One dog can attend or an additional $22 (including GST) for a second dog and additional $33 (including GST) for a third dog (please note that this only applies to dogs from the same household)
For a shared session with friends or family from other households, please contact me

Please contact us for goat herding as suitability is subject to trainer’s discretion.

PRIVATE SESSIONS - CATTLE

Private cattle sessions are run at my property in Burpengary East, QLD. They run as on-going training sessions subject to trainer availability.

Session details:

1 hour session - $130 (including GST)
One dog can attend or an additional $22 (including GST) for a second dog and additional $33 (including GST) for a third dog (please note that this only applies to dogs from the same household)
You MUST have attended our sheep herding sessions prior to booking cattle herding - this allows us to assess your dog’s suitability for cattle work
PLEASE NOTE: Due to possible safety risks with cattle, we have a minimum age requirement of 8 months old for dogs to attend our training

BEGINNER CATTLE HERDING CLASS

Beginner Cattle Herding Class gives you and your dog an introduction to cattle herding and tests your dog’s instinct on cattle. To attend this class, your dog must have attended private or group sheep herding classes with us first to assess suitability for cattle. Due to the higher safety risk working cattle, your dog MUST be at least 8 months of age to attend this class.

SPECIAL OCCASIONS AND EVENTS

I offer private herding sessions for special occasions and events. These are booked by appointment only and are subject to trainer availability. Pricing will be determined based on event type, length of session and number of dogs attending.

Special events may include:

Instinct testing for litters of pups by breeder or group of new puppy owners with pups from the same litter
Instinct testing of multiple dogs through a rescue organisation
Breed club catch ups and celebrations
Dog birthday celebrations and catch ups
Friend group catch ups and celebrations
Holiday events
